Supplies should include:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Water \u2013 1 gallon per person, per day<\/p><p>&nbsp;&#8211; Non-perishable, easy to prepare food&nbsp;<\/p><p>&nbsp;&#8211; Flashlight<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Battery-powered or hand crank radio<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Extra batteries<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; First Aid Kit<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Medications (7-day supply)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Multi-purpose tool<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Sanitation and personal hygiene items<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Copies of pertinent documents (identification cards, birth certificates, insurance policies, medication lists, medical history, deed\/lease to home, passports, etc)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Cell phone with portable charger<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Family and emergency contact information<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Extra cash<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Emergency blanket<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Maps of the area<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211; Consider the needs of all family members and add supplies to your kit as needed:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;1. Medical Supplies (glasses, syringes, hearing aids with extra batteries, etc)<\/p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp;2. Baby Supplies (bottles, formula, diapers, etc)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;3. Games and activities to fight boredom<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;4. Pet Supplies (food, collar, leash, carrier\/crate, bowl, etc)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;5. Two-way radios<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;6. Generator<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;7. Fans and cooling towels to deal with the heat<\/p>\n<p>In addition to stocking your supplies, it\u2019s crucial to revisit emergency plans with family\/friends, the website https:\/\/www.ready.gov\/hurricanes has great resources for helping to develop your plan.&nbsp; Plan ahead to make sure you know in the case of evacuation where you will go, how you will get there, and where you will&nbsp;stay.&nbsp; <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2448 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/heartsathome.com\/houston\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/Article2-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"287\">If you can\u2019t imagine living without power, water, gas, phone , or internet for an extended period of time, you may want to consider evacuating&nbsp; well in advance of a storm.&nbsp; Additionally, if you need daily help, it is wise to ride out the storm with family\/friends who can deliver that assistance.&nbsp; Hired caregivers may not be able to reach you for an extended period of time after a major hurricane and you will need to be prepared to meet your own needs until it is safe for staff to return to you. &nbsp;Anyone who may need assistance during times of emergency is encouraged to register with the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry far in advance of any emergency.&nbsp; This is a free registry that provides local emergency planners and emergency responders with information on your needs in an emergency.&nbsp; You can register by phone at 211 or online at <a href=\"https:\/\/stear.tdem.texas.gov\">https:\/\/stear.tdem.texas.gov<\/a>.&nbsp; If you\u2019re already registered, make sure to update your registration annually!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"elementor-image-box-title\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1751 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/heartsathome.com\/houston\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/stacy-bio.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"301\">STACEY WELFEL, PT, CFPS<\/h3>\n<p class=\"elementor-image-box-description\"><strong>Director of Training &amp; Compliance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Welfel serves as Director of Training and Compliance.
