Home Care in Cypress – Adaptive Equipment for Safety & Independence

quick internet search will find you no shortage of adaptive equipment designed to tackle nearly any functional struggle.  Some are junk and a waste of money, but many are worth their weight in gold and can make a tremendous difference in your functional level. Some of my favorite equipment to recommend includes:

1.  Threshold Ramps – smooth out the threshold over an exterior doorway to reduce tripping and make rolling a wheelchair in/out much easier

2. Grab Bars – provide steadying assist for transfers to make them safer and easier; typically utilized in the restroom around the commode or the shower/tub

3. Tension-mounted pole or Sit-Assist – these are especially helpful for getting up from a favorite lounge chair or sofa

4. Built-Up Handles – enlarge the handle of things like eating utensils to improve grip for those with reduced fine motor control or hand strength

5. Home Automation Systems – things like Amazon Alexa and Google Home are now mainstream and affordable; you’d be amazed at the things these devices can do with just verbal instructions. They can handle anything from locking your doors to calling for help in the case of an emergency.
